The road race is on! Cycling elites and enthusiasts from all over
Pangasinan and neighboring provinces once again will showcase their
expertise in cycling as they battle for supremacy during the Criterium
race dubbed Lumbay Bisikleta scheduled on May 2, 1 pm as a part of the
Pistay Dayat celebration.
Said
sporting event aims to gather a number of cycling aficionados from
various towns and cities in Pangasinan and other provinces not just to
to race and compete but also to have a taste of the festivities of the
sea.
Residents,
tourists, fans and supporters of the riders will get to watch how their
favorites hurdle for victory in the race which will begin at the
intersection of Alvear Road and Maramba Boulevard and will end in the
same place. The awarding of prizes subsequently follows after the end of
the race in each category.
The
competition will be a multi-category criterium race which will have
these three categories: Open/Elite for professional and amateur riders;
masters’/executives for both office employees and executives; and junior
or under 23 year-old category. A quota of 40 participants is agreed for
each category.
Riders
for the Open category will race for one hour and three laps around the
Maramba Boulevard while the participants for the masters’ and junior
categories, respectively shall race for one hour and two laps. Each
round in the boulevard courses 1.2 km.
Top prizes for the bestriders in Open category include: 1st place,10,000; 2nd place, 7,000; 3rd place, 5,000; 4th place, 3,000; 5th place, 2,000; 6th to 10th place, 1,000 each; 11th to 15th place, 500 each; and 16th to 20th place, 300 each.Winners in the masters’ category will receive the following cash prizes: 1st place, 4,000; 2nd place, 2,000; 3rd place, 1,000; 4th place, 700; 5th place, 500; and 6th to 10th place, 300 each. Meanwhile, for the junior category, riders who will rule
the race will receive: 1st place, 5,000; 2nd place, 3,000; 3rd place, 2,000; 4th place, 1,000; 5th place, 700; 6th to 10th place, 500 each; and 11th to 20th place , 300 each.
For
the safety and security of the cyclists all throughout the race,
Provincial Sports Director Modesto M. Operania said he has already
informed PNP Pangasinan and traffic aides to keep an eye at every U-turn
and intersection along the Maramba Boulevard during the race. In
addition, Medics have been instructed to be alert during the race
together with their ambulance units.
Registration of the participants starts early morning of May 2.
