Baby Xavier is still in critical condition |
Since then, the infant was hooked to a ventilator machine
(breathing apparatus) to be able to survive.
The 17-year old mother of the infant, Joyce Zambrano was
rushed to the hospital last July 20 due to fever but diagnosis showed she had
been stricken with the deadly dengue fever, a disease very common during rainy
season in the Philippines which is caused by a mosquito bite.
As a result of the illness, Zambrano was forced to give
birth but her baby during the delivery reportedly inhaled a secretion which has
caused obstruction in the lungs.
The ventilator machine will serve as a life support for
the baby while he is under unstable condition and while the doctors had to
contain his infection. But the cost of the ventilator machine alone is already
P15,000 daily, excluding other medical expenses.
Raphael Manaois, the father of the baby is just 18 years old
and still studying high school. Aside from his Father, a journalist in
Pangasinan, who had been supporting him, some people who had seen the baby’s
photo which was posted in Facebook had been giving little donation which is
only good for daily expenses of the parents in the hospital.
The Father said his baby’s doctor give no assurance on
the recovery of the baby and how long will he be dependent on the very
expensive machine.
“I and my wife had thought one time of giving up the
machine because we can’t afford it but how about if our baby had the chance to
live and the breathing apparatus is a bridge of life for him, so we are
appealing to those who are kindhearted to please help us,” the youthful parents
pleaded.
At the Villaflor Hospital where the infant was previously
admitted, the charge for the use of medical oxygen is P15,000 per day,
excluding medicines, doctor’s professional fees and other medical services. The
total amount of the baby’s hospital bill is now running at P240,000 and the
parents had to sign a promissory to be able to transfer their child to much
cheaper hospital.
The patient was
transferred now to Trauma Hospital for a little discount for the use of
ventilator which is estimated at P10,000 daily, minus other medical services.
The Father said they don’t want to gamble in transferring
their baby in a public hospital because aside from the fact that they don’t
have the ventilator facility, there is no specialist doctor who is capable to
handle the case of their child.
The baby’s parents are also asking the support of any
Children Foundation that could help them for possible free hospitalization and
medication.
The baby’s grandfather Rani Jim Manaois could be
