Apology
not Enough. Governor
Amado T. Espino, Jr. urges the members of the media to help the province
recover from the ill-effects of an unfounded report by a late night national
news TV program which broadcasted that a “mysterious flesh-eating disease is
fast spreading in the province of Pangasinan” which caused panic among
Pangasinenses and their relatives abroad.
The Governor appreciated the issued apology of Bandila of ABS-CBN, but
he further sought the TV network to exert extra effort in rebuilding the image
of Pangasinan as a province “worth visiting” and the people are healthy and
friendly. With the Governor is Vice Gov.
Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. and Provincial Health Officer Anna Teresa de
Guzman.
Governor
Espino visits patients who were victims of wrong TV news report. Governor Amado T. Espino,
Jr. visits the two patients at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos
City last February 28 who were dragged into controversy when a late night
national news TV program broadcasted last February 24 that the two were
carrying a “mysterious flesh-eating disease” already spreading in Pangasinan. Health experts including Health Secretary Enrique
Ona said that there is no such recorded flesh-eating disease yet in the country. Bandila of ABS-CBN already issued an apology for
airing the report that caused panic among Pangasinenses and their relatives
from other countries and affected the economy of the province particularly the
tourism industry.
