Agew na Pangasinan to carve history of local culture – PA Baraan

Lingayen- - -The 432nd founding anniversary of Pangasinan which will be celebrated on April 11 will carve a niche in the history of local culture.

This developed as three special features will highlight this year’s celebration that include the presentation of research study on Pangasinan history and development, official adoption and turn-over of Pangasinan orthography, and the awarding ceremonies of the first literary contest in Pangasinan language.

Provincial Administrator Rafael F. Baraan earlier said that the research study on Pangasinan history and development is part of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr.’s goal to revive our local culture so that the roots and identity of Pangasinense will be preserved and enhanced. 

Baraan also said that the second feature which is the official launching of Pangasinan orthography, the first in the country, is an added cap to province’s culture as the dialect will now have a roadmap as far as proper usage of words and correct spelling is concerned.

The third highlight, he added, serves as a tribute to the beauty of Pangasinan language thru the conduct of the first-ever literary contest for local literary writers dubbed “Kurit Panlunggaring.”

The founding anniversary will have three parts which will commence with a Thanksgiving Mass at 7:30am followed by the Commemorative Program at 9am at the Capitol Plaza.

Second part is the commemorative program with the following highlights: Welcome Address by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr., Presentation of research Study on Pangasinan History and Development by Dr. Gonzalo T. Duque, Chairman of Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission, Reading of Official Adoption of Pangasinan Orthography by Jose Laderas Santos, Chairman of Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) .

After the reading, the turnover of Pangasinan orthography to the province by the KWF commissioners will be held which will be preceded by the awarding rites for “Kurit Panlunggaring” winners with Gov. Espino; Francisco Sionel Jose, International Filipino Novelist who is the guest of honor and speaker, and Vice Gov. Calimlim doing the honors.

Message of the Governor and the Guest of Honor will follow preceded by the presentation of plaque of appreciation for the honorary guest.

Parada na Dayew (Grand Cultural Parade) featuring colorful floats and street dancers of some 26 local government units and one private firm immediately follow and later, blessing and opening of the 5th Pangasinan Tourism and Trade Expo at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PTDC) compound.
