LINGAYEN-A
provincewide gun ban will be implemented in Pangasinan for the duration
of Pistay Dayat and Palarong Pambansa from April 27 to May 15 this year
to secure the safety of visiting guests and participants to the said
events.
This
developed as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan asked Pangasinan Provincial
Police Office Acting Provincial Director P/Supt. Michael M. Nicolas to
submit a letter recommending to the Philippine National Police the
implementation of gun ban in Pangasinan during the celebration of the
Pistay Dayat and the holding of the Palarong Pambansa 2012 which will be
hosted by Pangasinan.
During
the regular session held on April 23 at the SP Hall in Lingayen, Board
Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario, author of Provincial Resolution no.
1265-2012, noted that although the province is generally stable and
peaceful, it is the primordial concern of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan
that security and orderliness be provided.
Rosario
said that Pangasinan is expecting thousands of athletes, delegates,
dignitaries guests and other spectators who will be participating and
witnessing said events especially the Palarong Pambansa , a national
athletics competition involving elementary and high school students from
both the public and private schools covering the 17 regions of the
country.
Considering
the magnitude of the holding of these special events, Rosario and other
members of the SP said the PNP should enforce measures and prescribe
guidelines to ensure the maintenance of peace and order in the province.
After
thorough deliberations, the provincial board is expected to approve the
proposed resolution pending the approval of the letter from the PPO
favorably endorsing to PNP Chief Nicanor Bartolome the proposal for the
implementation of a provincewide gun ban in Pangasinan to secure the
safety of visiting guests for the Pistay Dayat celebration and the
athletes and delegates for the Palarong Pambansa.
