LINGAYEN---Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. has lauded the Pangasinan Karate Team (Filipinas Wado Ryu Karate) for being crowned overall champion during the 2nd Philippine Karatedo Federation-NSA Inc. Gov. Jonvic Remulla Karate Championships held on March 10 at Cavite Gymnasium, Trece Martires Cavite.

The governor also congratulated the Pangasinan Team for bringing honor to the province and the country as well.

As he said that youth and sports development is one of the main concerns of his administration, Gov. Espino assured his continuing support to athletics noting that sports facilities at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center which he said is always open to all athletic organizations to hold sports events.

As this developed, Dr. Alejandro Enrico Vasquez, chief instructor of the Filipinas Wado Ryu Karate said the team will compete in the PKF-NSA Inc national championships on April 13 to 14 at the Philsports Arena ULTRA in Pasig City.

Vasquez noted that the gold and silver medalists of the National championships will represent the Philippines in the coming 2nd South East Asian Karate Federation Congress and Championships which our country will host on April 18 to 21 at Stotsenberg Convention Hall Clark, Pampanga.

This international sports event will be participated in by Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Brunei, Singapore, East Timor and host country Philippines.

Towards this end, Gov. Espino commended the organizers who exerted extra efforts to ensure a successful competition which will likewise help promote the country’s tourism with the gathering of 11 nations in Southeast Asia.

The outstanding Pangasinan players are John Enrico Vasquez, Kristelle Ira Zabala, John Matthew Manantan, Jude Michael Uson, Gilbert Jorel Arellano, Clint Velosco, John Jerick Obra, Alexis Louise Nunez, John Marc Claveria, and Aldrin Yu Brito. Aside from the gold and silver medals recently earned from the competition in Cavite, Vasquez, Zabala and Manantan were also top winners in the Batang Pinoy Karatedo national competitions and gold and silver medalists in international competitions held in Singapore Korea and Thailand.
