LINGAYEN---The provincial government has distributed a total of P740, 000 as financial assistance to the 148 families whose houses were totally damaged by the whirlwind (Buhawi) and hailstorm that hit two Pangasinan towns last May and June.

The distribution was held in the municipalities of Bayambang and Urbiztondo last July 11 where the victims received P5,000 eachunder the Emergency Shelter Assistance Programto help them fix their damaged houses.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Chief Emilio Samson said that Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. has approved the release of the financial assistance from the province’s calamity fund for the victims in Urbiztondo who were affected by the hailstorm last June 4 and in Bayambang where houses were damaged due to the occurrence of a whirlwind on May 3.


Samson said 112 families in Urbiztondo and 36 families in Bayambang were affected by the whirlwind.
Samson further disclosed that aside from the emergency shelter assistance to the buhawi victims in Bayambang, 500 families also availed of relief goods distributed by the provincial government through the PSWDO.

Romy Abalos of Barangay Dusoc in Bayambang is thankful to the governor whom he said has a big heart for the people and always ready to help.

Antonio Castro of Barangay Malayo in Urbiztondo was likewise very happy in expressing his gratitude to Gov. Espino for having received the assistance as he said that “malaking tulong ito para maipaayos namin ang nasirang bahay namin.”

Executive Assistant III Modesto Operania who represented Gov. Espino urged the people to practice preparedness so that when disasters or calamities happen they are ready to move themselves to safety as he said that the provincial government has been conducting trainings on disaster preparedness through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

As this developed, the local chief executives of the two towns Mayor Ricardo Camacho of Bayambang and Mayor Ernesto Balolong of Urbiztondo were equally thankful to Gov. Espino as they lauded the provincial chief executive for the ready assistance especially during calamities. The provincial team led by the PSWDO composed of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council with its chief Col. Fernando De Guzman, personnel from the Provincial Treasury Office and the Provincial Information Office led by public information officer Butch Velasco.
