LINGAYEN---Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. underscored the importance of inculcating in the minds of the Pangasinense youth the love and loyalty for their own locality and their awareness towards their cultural and artistic heritage.
At the formal opening of the Tourism Month and the launching of Balitok-a-Tawir Year 3 at the Sison Auditorium last September 9, Gov. Espino expressed delight that in his Baruy-I Love Pangasinan sorties, he has witnessed that people in the Ilocano-speaking municipalities did their best in learning the Pangasinan dialect through the Pangasinan Hymn like in San Quintin and Umingan.
“We in the provincial government believe that the Ilocano speaking Pangasinense will eventually learn the Pangasinan dialect thru the hymn,” the governor said even as he stressed that the provincial government travelled in all cities and municipalities through the I Love Pangasinan Movement to heighten the consciousness of the youth of our artistic culture and history.
The Balitok-a-Tawir or Golden Heritage which highlights this year’s Tourism Month celebration is another program aimed to rediscover, recapture, promote and preserve the culture of Pangasinan.
The governor said he wants to impart among the youth the authentic culture that Pangasinan has, relive those that have gone to oblivion and teach them to our children and our children’s children including the Pangasinan dialect.
“With all the things that the provincial government has been doing, all efforts are directed towards the future of our youth, we want to secure your future so that when your turn to lead comes you will be proud to tell others that we have prepared for your future,” Gov. Espino said.
As he urged all Pangasinenses especially the students from various schools and universities in the province who were present during the affair to show their love for Pangasinan, the governor said “ipakita natin ang ating pagmamahal sa probinsiya sa pamamagitan ng pagsuporta sa mga programang tulad ng paglilinis ng mga kailugan, pagpapanatili ng kalinisan sa poblasyon na siyang mukha, puso, kaluluwa at utak ng anumang bayan.”
Addressing every Pangasinense including the leaders of this province, Governor Espino said that “the people must first appreciate our locality before others do so that tourism becomes a natural thing to be done in Pangasinan,” he said.
Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator Rafael Howard Baraan formally launched the I Love Pangasinan Tourism Song and Music Video Making Competition intended to help the province find an appropriate music video that will showcase the beauty of Pangasinan as well as love for the province.
Baraan said the competition is open to any individual or group of new and professional composers and music video makers with attractive prizes at stake for the best song, best video, best performing artist and people’s choice.
In the Balitok-a-Tawir, local government units, universities, colleges and DepEd were enjoined to participate in the various cultural competitions which include choral rendition, folkdance, and zarzuela to showcase the rich culture and history of Pangasinan.
Towards this end, Baraan urged all interested especially the students to actively participate in the various competitions that seek to promote the culture and the arts of the province. Tourism month is celebrated annually by the province to foster awareness on the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
