LINGAYEN---Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. said he supports Mayor Arthur Celeste and the City Government of Alaminos in the city's plan to improve the Hundred Islands to restore its natural beauty which was marred by the illegal structures built on the major islands.

This developed following the dismantling operations conducted by the Alaminos City government led by Mayor Celeste on August 3 where structures built and illegally operated by small entrepreneurs on Quezon Island were dismantled.

Gov.

Mayor Celeste said the dismantling operations started two weeks ago after conducting an inspection on the site where he noticed that the facilities built on the islands were not appropriate and the place emits unpleasant odor.

Even some of the original structures were ruined and disfigured like the monument of former President Manuel L. Quezon whom the Quezon Island was named.

Alarmed by the condition of the island which is a major tourist attraction not only of Pangasinan but of the country as well, Celeste sought the help of Gov. Espino for the restoration of the natural beauty of the Hundred Islands, regain its cleanliness and bring back its pristine waters.

While the dismantling activities are ongoing, Celeste noted that visitors going to the islands will not be affected. “Tourists, visitors and beachgoers can always have fun in the island,” Celeste said.

Celeste said the islands need fresh water and clean comfort rooms. However, he said that in coordination with the provincial government, they will seek technical advice from experts and come up with a plan before constructing facilities that are tourist-friendly.

“Gusto ko yung mga turistang mamamasyal dito ay masisiyahan at irerekomenda sa ibang tao ang island na ito bilang isang maganda at malinis na pasyalan bukod sa presyong abot-kaya ng mga bisita,” Mayor Celeste said.

Towards this end, Gov. Espino has recommended the construction of facilities fit for a top tourist attraction that will be appreciated by every visitor. He stressed that with the refurbishment of the Hundred Islands, priority factors to be considered are cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation among others even as he advised Celeste to start the facelifting with the four major islands of Governor’s Island, Children’s Island, Quezon Island and Marcos Island
